Jifflenow: Accurate Event Timezone Handling for Daylight Saving Adjustments

    TABLE OF CONTENTS:

Currently, an event’s timezone is determined based on the event city and the date of event creation. This approach can cause timezone discrepancies if an event is scheduled after a daylight saving time (DST) change. If the event is created before DST starts or ends but takes place after the change, the incorrect timezone may be applied, leading to scheduling errors and confusion.

      Solution:

      Functional Change:

      • The event’s timezone will now be determined based on the event city and event start date rather than the creation date.

      • The event start and end date fields will be repositioned in the UI to appear above the event city selection, ensuring clarity in the workflow.

      User Journey Flow:

      1. When the user selects/updates the city and the start time is empty → The system sets the timezone using the current date.

      2. When the user selects/updates the start time while the city is already selected → The system updates the timezone based on the event start date.

      3. When the user selects/updates the city while the start time is already selected →. The system sets the timezone using the event start date.

This change ensures timezone accuracy, preventing unintended shifts in event schedules due to daylight saving adjustments.
